I loved absolutely everything about Jessica and Ryan’s wedding at Wishing Well Barn. When I think of this couple, I think of the song “I’ve Been Everywhere” (the Johnny Cash version). They love to travel and Ryan proposed in Thailand! They went to Africa (think safari) for their honeymoon. They’ve been to Costa Rica, lived in Colorado and had an “all-day quest” for authentic paella in Spain. They met at Plant High School and Ryan’s mom was Jessica’s chemistry teacher… which led to chemistry between the two of them. Ha! With Jessica being a sustainability analyst, their wedding had many eco-friendly aspects. All of the china was hand-picked by Jessica and Ryan, all of which is reusable and did not become waste. Also, their lanterns (my favorite part!) were made with bamboo and were biodegradable. Her dress and shoes were both vintage and the dress was purchased locally at La France. Now I will let Jessica and Ryan tell their story in their own words:
What did you first notice about your partner?
I know this sounds bad, but I first noticed Ryan’s car! He had a really cool, old BMW. And when we were both hanging out with a group of friends, I told him that I liked his car. We still talk about how that car sparked the beginning of our relationship!-Jessica
If you could have one character trait of your partner’s, which would it be and why?
Her determination. Jess has strong values, and sticks to them. She decides what she wants and makes it happen. I’ve seen her accomplish so much with this.-Ryan
What stands out the most to you during the proposal?
Everything! It was very romantic and perfect. I knew he was going to propose in Thailand, but he put a lot of effort and time to set up a very romantic dinner on the beach right in the sand. But my favorite part was setting off two huge Thai wish lanterns right before he proposed.-Jessica
What is most important to your partner?
To always keep growing, learning, exploring, and never settle for less.-Ryan
He tells me that I am the most important thing to him. I know he just wants me and our little family (us and our two cats) to be happy, and that is all that matters.-Jessica
Recount a moment your partner surprised you in a way that made you love them more.
It’s not one thing, but Ryan always surprises me with how supportive and game he is with any of my more adventurous ideas, like waking up at 4 am to milk a cow in Costa Rica, spending a week working on a farm in exchange for free room and board, moving to Colorado for 3 months, and my all-day quest for authentic paella in Spain. He 100% supports my belief that anything is possible if we want it bad enough. He never says we shouldn’t do something or discourages me, even if he doesn’t really want to do it. And when he rarely says we should postpone an idea, it is always for a good reason and I end up agreeing. And his secret love of Britney Spears and pina coladas!-Jessica
What’s one thing your partner does that makes you laugh?
Jess has a tendency to go a little crazy in the kitchen. She’ll make an elaborate Julia Child French dinner party recipe on a weeknight just for fun. I’m the official sous chef, and the experience occasionally results in some near-disasters, but always lots of laughs. And the meal always turns out fantastic.
She once went to a book-signing for one of her favorite chefs, Thomas Keller, and told him how we made one of his elaborate meals recently, and ended up spending most of the night on it. His baffled/amused response was, “Why in the world would you try to tackle that meal on a Tuesday night?!”-Ryan
Now enjoy their amazing day!
